DAY 01: Huaraz (3,100 m) – LLamac (3,300m)
Bus 5h From Huaraz we go to the south of Callejón de Huaylas, looking Bus 5h From Huaraz we go to the south of Callejón de Huaylas, looking the show peaksv of the Cordillera Blanca up to Querococha Lagoon , there we take a detour to the west of Pampa de Lampasv through anasphalted highway up to Mojón, there another detour for a not asphalted way to Chiquian (3h), going with the first and amazing views of the Cordillera de Huayhuash; a short stop on this curious town of Chiquian and we continue our way to the small town of LLamac where the trekking begins (3,300m) 2h, here we establish our first camping.
DAY 02: Llamac – Cuartelhuaín (4,100m)
From Llamac we begin the circular 10 day walk through the Cordillera Huayhuash. Here we made contact with our mountain trainers: guides, cookers, muleteers, etc to begin the expedition, with donkeys loaded up we begin the trekking for Rondoy visiting the typical Andean town of Pocpa, then we continue to Cuartel Huaín through the quiet pendings on this first day of walking, crossing the Palca mine on the edge of Rondoy, then we get to Cuartel Huaín (4,100m) to stand our second camp.
DAY 03: Cuartelhuaín – Mitucocha (4,200 m)
6h From Cuartel Huaín we begin the climbing up to cross the first step of Cacananpunta (4,700m) where you can see the mountains fill up the landscape; then we go down for a wide and grassy valley with access to the amazing Mitucocha lagoon (4,200m). Here we camp at the edge of the lagoon, and then we will do a walking by the moraine to Ninancocha lagoon (4,400m) at the end of Jirishanca and Rondoy. Return to camp.
DAY 04: Mitucocha – Carhuacocha (4,100 m)
6h We begin this day with a walking climbing up through Mitucocha gully that is becoming narrow to appear Carhuac (4,650m) where you can see a magnificent view of the Siula and Yerupaja. Going down then we establish our camp at the edge of the beautiful Carhuacocha lagoon, having an splendid view of the big Yerupaja, small Yerupaja and Jirishanca reflected on the lagoon.
DAY 05: Carhuacocha – Huayhuash (4,350 m)
6h We begin the walk going down the river up to the Queropalca gully and then to the south we climb up to the El Paso Carnicero (4,600m) from where you can see amazing views of the mountains: The Yerupaja (6,634m) the second highest in the Peruvian Andes, the Simula (6,356m) an astonishing mountain that Joe Simpson made famous after his dramatic climb that he narrates of his book “Touching the Emptyness” about the tragic accident he lived, also amazing views of the Carnicero and Trapecio. We go down to the Huayhuash to establish our camp near the lagoon (4,350m)
DAY 06: Huayhuash – Viconga (4,500 m)
5h On this day the trek take us to the south of the Cordillera Huayhuash, we climb up to the Huayhuash (4,700m) only to see the fantastic views of the Cordillera of Raura and to the opposite side (south east) the face of the Trapecio. Going down to the south, we get to Viconga lagoon (4,500m) to establish our camp near the lagoon, then we will have time to walk to the west to the thermal baths of Putcka to enjoy a relaxing bath on its hot water and then return to camp in Viconga.
DAY 07: Viconga – Huanacpatay (4,200 m)
8h This the sixth day of walking and it will be a long one, the main purpose is to cross Cuyoc (5,000m) the higher point of the walk and from where you can see amazing views of the Cordillera Huayhuash (Cuyoc, Puscanturpa, Trapecio, Siula, Yerupaja, Sarapo, Jurao, among others.) and to the south west the Cordillera de Raura. Crossing El Paso Cuyoc we go down to the Huanacpatay gully to approach for soft and long meadows up tour camp. (4,200 m)
DAY 08: Huanacpatay – Huatia (4,300 m)
7h We continue the trek going down Huayllapa gully up to the town of Huayllapa (3,550m) to begin then the climbing up by Tapush gully up to our camp in Huatia (4,300m)
DAY 09: Huatia – Gashpapampa (4,400 m)
5h We continue climbing to EL Paso Tapush (4,800m) going down then to Susococha lagoon to approach to our camp in Gashpapampa (4,400m) on a nice environment and from where the Suerococha (Mute devil) fills our landscape.
DAY 10: Gashpapampa – Jahuacocha (4,050 m)
According to weather conditions and the decision of the group, there are two alternatives: Way 1: Gashpapampa – Yaucha – Jahuacocha (4,050 m) 5h Direct way by El Paso Yaucha (4,800m) where you can see two amazing views of the Cordillera Huayhuash (Rondoy, Ninashanca, Hirishanca, Small Yerupaja, Big Yerupaja, Rasac, Siula, Sacra, and others; then we go down to approach to the beautiful lagoon of Jahuacocha where we establish our camp (4,050m) on a nice environment having as a landscape the astonishing Jahuacocha lagoon and a group of amazing mountains (Rondoy, Hirishanca, Small Yerupaja, Big Yerupaja, among others). Way 2: Gashpapampa -Diablo mudo – Jahuacocha (4,050 m) 12h Through Mute Devil (5,300m). We do not require experience to climb it, because there is no technical difficulty, but it is necessary to use the climbing equipment such as: crampons, harness, ice-axe, rope, snow boots and glasses. The going down from Huacrish gully ends also in Jahuacocha lagoon where we will establish our camp (4,050m) in a nice environment having as a landscape the beautiful Jahuacocha lagoon and a bouquet of amazing mountains (Rondoy, Hirishanca, Small Yerupaja, Big Yerupaja, among others ).
DAY 11: Jahuacocha (4,050m)
Free day to rest enjoying the environment and to make a nice walk to approach to Solterococha lagoon and the camp base of Yerupaja near the del glacier and then come back our camp in Jahuacoha; And besides from Soltero Cocha we can make a walk to Sambunya (4,750m) having a magnificent view of Cordillera Huayhuash. Return to the camp in Jahuacocha.
DAY 12: Jahuacocha – Llamac (3,300 m) 4h / Llamac – Chiquián (3,300 m) 2h / Chiquián – Huaraz (3,100 m)
Last day of trek going down trough Huayllan we follow up the water of the same river name that comes from Jahuacocha lagoon between the ichu and quenuales we get to Lirio pampa(2h), where you can see last views of show peaks (Rondoy, Hirishanca, Yerupaja), we say good bye to Cordillera Huayhuash, to continue to the Llamac town (2h) where the bus is coming to pick us up to come back to Huaraz. A short stop in Chiquián (2h) and then continue to Huaraz (3h). This is an approximation of the trekking nearby Cordillera Huayhuash. The tour will depend in different factors such as: time, physical condition, adaptation to the height, among others, so maybe the camp places and schedules may vary for better. The detailed tour give us a free day, you can use it for resting in the circuit, living us time to recover the energy we waste in the trekking, or if you are in excellent conditions you can make marvelous walks, we also have the choice to take this day for other things without making any change in the circuit of Cordillera Huayhuash.
